7 Layer, Magic Bars

7 Layer, Magic Bars

I’ve heard these called 7 Layer Bars, Magic Bars & Hello Dolly Bars. Whatever the name they are crazy delicious! I used to call them Magic Bars until someone asked me what was the magic in them *wink, wink.* I guess living in California, some could expect an added ingredient of  Mary Jane, to sweeten the deal,  in a dessert named Magic Bars. Not to allow anymore confusion, or to get anyone’s hopes high, I now personally call them 7 Layer Bars. This recipe is like any other basic 7 Layer Bar, except it has peanut butter chips instead of butterscotch chips.. I love me some peanut butter!

7 Layer Bars aka Magic Bars
dessert

Ingredients
  • 1½ crumbs graham cracker crumbs, approximately 8 whole crackers
  • ½ cup butter. melted
  • 1 cup chocolate chips
  • 1 cup peanut butter chips
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 (14 oz can) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1⅓ cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup bite sized pretzels
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Put melted butter into 9×13 glass pan and swirl around to coat bottom.
  3. Spread the crumbs evenly over bottom of pan.
  4. Layer: chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, walnuts, pretzels, coconuts.
  5. Pour condensed milk over the top.
  6. Bake for 25 minutes and let cool.
Notes
If making these for a party, I like to line the glass pan with foil. This way it makes it easier to cut into bars. Once cooled, just grab foil and remove dessert onto cutting board.

Mom, these aren’t your Magic Cookie Bars from the 60’s. ;)

Mom made the “Magic Cookie Bar” sans pretzels a lot! Still in the recipe box. 8-)
